Switchmate

The Switchmate app provides a central hub for managing your smart home devices, including switches, plugs, cameras, and bridges. This application allows you to connect, configure, and control all compatible hardware from a single interface, making home automation straightforward and accessible.

Core Features

Timers and Welcome Home automation let you schedule lights or appliances to turn on or off automatically based on your routines. Remote control is possible through a Bridge Device, and full integration with Alexa and Google Assistant enables hands-free voice commands. Over-the-air firmware updates ensure your devices always have the latest capabilities.

Voice Control and Automation

The built-in voice control feature lets you tap the microphone icon and speak commands like turning on a specific room light or all lights at once. The app matches commands by device name or location, and you can also control groups of devices collectively. This eliminates the need to manually toggle each switch.

Device Compatibility and Setup

This app works with Switchmate switches, SWMbright/Slim, SWMpower, Zip, Cube Camera, and future devices. It requires Android 4.4.4 or higher for Bluetooth Low Energy, which preserves battery life. Setup involves scanning for nearby devices and assigning names or locations for easy recognition.

Permissions and Privacy

Location permissions are needed for Bluetooth scanning, though the app only uses location data when Welcome Home is active to detect your arrival. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted. Background service and internet permissions support automation features, crash reporting, and firmware updates without draining your phone.
